The Ivy Coach Daily
Notable Dartmouth College Alumni

Ah, Dartmouth College. Nestled in the idyllic beauty of New Hampshire, this Ivy League institution is known for its prestigious academics, picturesque campus, and a proud tradition of producing some of the most talented individuals in nearly every field imaginable. But let’s be real – beyond the success, we’re here to talk about the stars who made it big after they survived the rigorous academic pressures and still managed to have some fun. From Hollywood legends like Connie Britton to political heavyweights like Nelson D. Rockefeller, Dartmouth’s alumni list reads like the who’s who of successful players in every major industry.
Well Known Dartmouth College Alumni
1. Mindy Kaling – Queen of Comedy
If you’ve ever watched The Office and marveled at the wit and sarcasm of Kelly Kapoor, you’ve got Dartmouth to thank. Mindy Kaling, the writer, producer, and star of The Mindy Project, honed her comedic chops in the halls of Dartmouth. That someone could go from writing for The Office to creating their own hit TV show is already impressive. But Mindy’s humor is what truly stands out. She knows how to poke fun at herself while navigating the highs and lows of life with grace and a hefty dose of snark. Dartmouth clearly taught her a thing or two about how to be hilarious, relatable, and ridiculously successful. If you need proof of her Dartmouth roots, just know that she once wrote for the college’s newspaper. We’ll take a moment to say, “Thank you, Mindy.”
2. Dr. Seuss – The Master of Rhymes
Before he was the beloved author of Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat, Dr. Seuss (a.k.a. Theodor Geisel) was a Dartmouth student who had a bit of a rebellious streak. He was a member of the prestigious Dartmouth humor magazine, Jack-O-Lantern, where he created cartoons that were clever enough to make anyone giggle. Though Geisel might have been known for his colorful, wacky world of fictional creatures and magical lands, he actually lived in the realm of Dartmouth’s practical jokes and creative imagination long before penning the stories that would define children’s literature for generations. So, the next time you’re reading Horton Hears a Who!, just imagine a young Geisel sitting in a Dartmouth lecture hall, probably doodling his future best-seller on the back of his notebook. Oh, the places you’ll go, indeed.
3. Shonda Rhimes – The Shonda-verse Creator
It’s not just about playing hard – it’s about working hard. Shonda Rhimes, the woman behind hit shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, didn’t just coast on her Dartmouth education; she used it as a launching pad for her incredible career in television. Rhimes graduated magna cum laude with a degree in English, which helped her develop some of the most compelling, twisted plotlines known to TV. While the rest of us were struggling with English essays, Shonda was probably creating a world where people would scream at each other in emotional, gripping monologues (and eventually, plot twists involving murder and betrayal). So, yeah, Dartmouth graduated a true force of nature.
4. Robert Frost – The Poet Who Took “The Road Less Traveled” and Wrote About It
When you think of Robert Frost, you might picture an old guy with a beard walking through snow-covered woods and writing profound lines like, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by.” This iconic poet, who somehow managed to capture the essence of the human experience with his rhyming, rural charm, is one of Dartmouth College’s most celebrated alumni.
