Colby College Waitlist Acceptance Rate

Colby College has a reputation for academic excellence and a close-knit community that matches its high selectivity from a college admissions standpoint. So, it’s no surprise that many hopeful applicants are left waitlisted each year, unsure whether they’ll go on to earn admission. If you’re in this pool of would-be Mules and would like to put your best foot forward to try and earn admission, here’s how:

Colby College Waitlist Acceptance Rate and Statistics

Before reviewing the actions you should take to optimize your odds of getting off the Colby waitlist, we must understand how Colby admissions officers conduct their waitlist process. Unfortunately, the Colby Common Data Set can’t be of much help here, as Colby doesn’t publicize this treasure trove of admissions data. We only have one year’s worth of data for the Class of 2023:

Your Odds of Earning Admission to Colby College After Being Waitlisted

For the Class of 2023, 3,668 Colby applicants were waitlisted. Of those who accepted a spot on this waitlist, only 19, or 1.31%, went on to earn admission. These odds may seem daunting, but it’s important to remember that if we had data for other admissions cycles, these numbers would likely show a significant variation.

Only one factor determines how many waitlisted applicants Colby College admissions officers send out acceptance letters to: yield rate. This little-known admissions factor describes the proportion of accepted students relative to those who enroll. The more students who enroll, the larger the incoming class, and the less of a need Colby has for waitlisted applicants to round out any gaps.

While the yield rate for the Class of 2029 is yet to be determined, one thing is sure: following Ivy Coach’s strategic advice will significantly improve your chances of earning admission, regardless of the circumstances.

Your Chances of Admission to Colby After Ivy Coach’s Help

Ivy Coach’s students who came to us after getting waitlisted to Colby stand a far better chance of gaining admission than those who don’t receive our help. We’re incredibly proud of our success rate, but we’re not in the business of gatekeeping our overall strategy from those who need it most.

It all boils down to Ivy Coach’s tried-and-true method of optimizing a student’s chances for admission after being placed in limbo. That two-step process is as follows:

  1. Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. We must see what a student did right and what they did wrong. The competitive application story we help craft can’t be out of left field. Rather, it needs to be consistent with the narrative conveyed in The Common Application — just told much more compellingly.
  2. Submit a compelling Letter of Continued Interest. Most students know they should submit a letter after being placed in limbo to earn admission. And most know they should do so promptly. But most students send in the wrong kind of letter. Ivy Coach’s letters to Colby contain no brags or updates. It’s a big reason why they give a student the best possible shot. We inspire Colby admissions officers to go to bat for our students!
