Haverford College Waitlist Acceptance Rate

Haverford College has emerged in recent years as a highly competitive liberal arts college that many students try and fail to get into each year. So, if your child was waitlisted to Haverford’s Class of 2029, take solace that they’ve already beaten the odds by not earning a flat-out rejection. Instead, your child is in a unique position to turn their application around and secure a spot in the Class of 2029. Learn how how they can do just that!
Haverford College’s Waitlist Acceptance Rate and Statistics
Haverford College Class Year | Number of Students Waitlisted to Haverford | Number of Students Who Chose to Join the Haverford Waitlist | Number of Students Accepted Off the Haverford Waitlist | Haverford Waitlist Acceptance Rate |
Class of 2029 | Not Yet Published | Not Yet Published | Not Yet Published | Not Yet Published |
Class of 2028 | 1,248 | 718 | 3 | 0.42% |
Class of 2027 | 1,342 | 740 | 27 | 3.65% |
We’ve compiled the above chart with Haverford’s Common Data Set data covering the last two admissions cycles. Even within this relatively small sample size, we notice that the waitlist acceptance rate at Haverford can vary widely from year to year. For admission to the Class of 2027, 27 out of the 740 eligible waitlisted candidates earned admission. One year later, that figure would diminish by 88% to 0.42%, or 3 out of 718 applicants.
This variation is largely determined by a little-known factor in college admissions called yield rate, or the proportion of admitted students who end up enrolling. In simpler terms, the higher the yield rate, the less likely waitlisted candidates will be accepted. While no one can predict the yield rate for the Class of 2029, students waitlisted to Haverford can put themselves in such a position that they are the first to receive consideration if Haverford admissions officers find they need to dip into the waitlist.
These might not seem like betting odds, but rest assured that those lucky future Fords from years past who made it off the waitlist did a number of things correctly to secure their admission — steps that you can take right now!
How to Improve Your Chances of Getting Off the Haverford Waitlist
Over the past 30 years, Ivy Coach has developed an excellent track record of getting students who first come to us after receiving waitlist notifications off those dreaded lists. While only around 10% of regular waitlisted applicants ultimately receive admission, around 40% of students who work with Ivy Coach after being waitlisted go on to earn admission.
So, what’s Ivy Coach’s game plan to help waitlisted students optimize their cases for admission to Haverford? It revolves around our secret sauce that turns our students into strategic powerhouses that instill faith in the admissions officers at their top schools. Our two-fold process for getting students off the waitlist and onto Haverford’s campus is as follows:
- Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. Before crafting a wow letter that hopes to sway admissions officers to go to bat for students, we first need to understand how a student positioned their case for admission. Thus, we know what they should focus on and what they should avoid focusing on in their letter. Naturally, we want to lean into their strengths and avoid doubling down on mistakes.
- Submit a powerful Letter of Continued Interest. This letter should contain no updates or not-so-humble brags. It’s a love letter to Haverford that should be filled with genuine specifics about the institution and how students will contribute their singular hooks. And it must be submitted expediently — we’re talking within days of receiving your waitlist email!
