So, you or your child were waitlisted to the University of Connecticut Class of 2029. Would you believe us if we told you you’re in some great company? A waitlisting is by no means a dead end — in fact, you should think of it as a jumping-off point from which admission can be secured. All it takes is some strategic moves in the days following being waitlisted to optimize your odds of admission. You’ve come to the right place to review these very steps!

University of Connecticut Waitlist Acceptance Rate and Statistics

We need not speculate as to the competitiveness of the UConn waitlist. The admissions officers at this public research university have very helpfully published such data in the school’s Common Data Set, an online archive of admissions information that stretches back to the Class of 2020. Let’s take a look:

Your Chances of Admission to University of Connecticut After Being Waitlisted

The last time UConn published data on the subject, for admission to the Class of 2027, 56.18% of waitlisted applicants wound up with an offer of acceptance! That’s more than half! Okay, so the year prior didn’t have as sunny an outlook for waitlisted applicants, as only 7.52% went on to earn admission. What accounts for this huge discrepancy?

It all comes down to the yield rate or the ratio of admitted students to those who end up enrolling. The higher the yield, the less UConn needs waitlisted applicants to fill in the gaps in their incoming class. Some years, like for the Class of 2027, it would appear UConn way overestimated their yield and had to fill in their class using waitlisted applicants. In other years, they have less of a need to do so.

No one can predict the yield rate for the Class of 2029, but there has yet to be a year when UConn admissions officers didn’t dip into their waitlist. In other words, you need to put yourself in a position so that when they look at their waitlisted pool, your application is the first they select for admission.

How to Optimize the Odds That You Get Off the UConn Waitlist and Onto Campus

Ivy Coach has an impeccable track record for helping our students who first come to us after being waitlisted get into schools like the University of Connecticut. We follow a tried-and-true two-step method to make the most out of the days following a notice of waitlist. That method is as follows:

  1. Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. We need to see how you presented your case for admission — mistakes and all. After all, the narrative we help you craft can’t be out of left field. It needs to be a more powerful version of the applicant you presented in your essays.
  2. Submit a compelling Letter of Continued Interest. This letter should contain no brags or updates. Most waitlisted students know they should submit a letter, yet the majority of them submit the wrong kind of letter. We brainstorm and revise letters that offer students the best shot possible of admission. These letters cause admissions officers to go to bat for our students!
