University officials have kept the University of Chicago’s Class of 2029 admissions statistics under wraps. No one knows how many students applied, how many were accepted, or much else. We all look forward to The Common Data Set that will soon arrive and lay UChicago bare. But chances are, if you’re reading this blog, you’re looking for answers now. And Ivy Coach has got you covered!

While UChicago has declined to release any data about this year’s admitted soon-to-be first years, there’s still room for analysis. Sure, we don’t know their gender breakdown, racial and ethnic composition, socioeconomic diversity, or even what states and countries they come from. But we do know why UChicago may have chosen to keep this info close to the vest.

Last year was a record-setting year for the proud Maroons who call UChicago home. A mere 4.48% of an all-time high of 43,612 applicants earned admission to this Ivy League level contender, a stellar performance amidst years of declining acceptance rates and influxes of ever-higher eager applicants.

A little-known factor that could be influencing the long-awaited admissions statistics for the Class of 2029 is that UChicago has maintained its test-optional policy through this admissions cycle, meaning that the applicant pool for the Class of 2029 was surely full of “squeakers,” or Ivy Coach’s term for that particular brand of high school senior who applies to colleges for which they are unqualified in the hopes that they will be able to squeak in without submitting any test scores. UChicago, after all, was test-optional before so many schools transitioned to test-optional policies in the wake of the global pandemic. As so many elite universities switch back to mandating test scores, UChicago’s test-optional policy therefore has more staying more.

Ivy Coach’s Prediction About the UChicago Class of 2029

With these squeakers in mind, Ivy Coach’s famously accurate crystal ball is rendering a prediction about the UChicago Class of 2029. This year will break another record in applications and just as likely in the acceptance rate! But there’s more to this story than just squeakers. We also suspect that UChicago will have picked up some students scared off by the crisis-stricken Ivy League school, which have uniformly seen declines in applications this cycle following a not-so-good year reputation-wise. These issues have led to a decrease in the number of students applying to Ivy League schools, which very well could have increased the number of applicants to UChicago. And while many of the Ivy League schools have reverted to testing requirements, UChicago remains — and will in all likelihood remain for years to come — test-optional. The squeakers will thus continue to apply to the institution in droves.

Only time will tell if these predictions end up being true, but in the meantime, there’s still plenty you can do if you were waitlisted to the UChicago Class of 2029 or are seeking to optimize your or your child’s odds of admission for a future admissions cycle.

Ivy Coach’s Assistance with The University of Chicago Waitlist

Unlike the admissions officers over at that Midwestern epicenter of higher education, we at Ivy Coach are transparent about our acceptance rate to UChicago. Over the last five years, 73% of our package clients earned admission to UChicago. Moreover, in the last 10 years, around 57% of students who have first come to Ivy Coach after being placed on UChicago’s waitlist have earned admission —nearly six times as high as the average elite college waitlist acceptance rate of 10%!

In fact, we’ve already helped multiple students earn admission off the UChicago waitlist to the Class of 2029 — and it’s only mid-April!

If you want to enhance your chances of admission off UChicago’s waitlist or for a future admissions cycle, don’t delay filling out our complimentary consultation form.
