If you’ve applied to join the Middlebury College Class of 2029, chances are you’ve been charmed by this private liberal arts college’s many, well, charms! The rolling hills of Vermont, the close student and faculty collaboration, the spirited social life that forges bonds all the more strongly because of the relative isolation in which they form, you name it! You’ve come to the right place to learn all about the Middlebury Class of 2029.

The unfortunate news is that Middlebury has not yet published any data on this new batch of admitted students. We don’t know how many applied, how many were accepted, or how many will now go on to enroll. But a close examination of the historical admissions data nonetheless reveals some pretty interesting insight into how Middlebury conducts its admissions process.

Middlebury’s Class of 2029 in Historical Perspective

Across the board, college admissions has become a highly competitive game at elite institutions, and Middlebury is no exception. A look at the chart above reveals that applications have been on the upward swing at Middlebury, with the Class of 2028 receiving 4,346 more applications than the Class of 2018 ten years earlier. Unsurprisingly, this surge in interest has also produced a decline in acceptance (compare 17.17% for the Class of 2018 to 11.96% ten years later).

However, the Class of 2028 doesn’t hold the distinction of the most competitive admissions class in Middlebury’s 224-year history. That distinction goes to the Class of 2027, in which a record 13,297 applicants tried their luck at admission, but only 10.37% were admitted (also a record).

We still don’t know anything about the Class of 2029, but given these admissions trends, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Middlebury breaks yet more records this year. We shall have our answer once this data is shared in Middlebury’s next edition of the Common Data Set.

Demographic Breakdown of Middlebury College’s Class of 2029

Without any admissions data, there’s nothing we can share about the newly incoming Panthers. We don’t know whether they have a more competitive academic profile than the Class of 2028, how many of them hailed from international countries, what the first-generation representation looks like in this class, or the racial makeup.

Even once Middlebury officials choose to come forward with the Class of 2029 acceptance rate, there’s no telling whether they will also share any of these juicy details, as admissions transparency has started to go out of fashion at elite admissions offices following the last few years of heightened media scrutiny of top colleges. But they can’t hide this data for long, so Ivy Coach will be the first to report back once it’s out!
