University of North Carolina Class of 2029 Admissions Statistics

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the oldest and arguably most prestigious public university in the United States. Research universities have become increasingly selective in recent years, reflecting a border trend in higher education towards lower acceptance rates and increasing popularity. Since the figures aren’t yet published, we don’t know how many students were admitted to the UNC at Chapel Hill Class of 2029, nor how many applied, but we’d still like to share some history and context about this recent admissions cycle at the University of North Carolina system’s flagship university.

UNC’s Class of 2029 in Historical Perspective
Last year, UNC at Chapel Hill reported a record admissions cycle that has punctuated years of progress. A record 66,535 students applied to try their hand at admission into the land of the Tar Heels, but only a mere 10,209, or 15.34% were accepted. As mentioned, this triumphant year came after years of decreasing acceptance and increasing application pools, which suggests that Chapel Hill is quickly skyrocketing into one of the most sought-after colleges in the nation.
While we don’t yet know how the Class of 2029 has fared, this history would suggest that it’s not too far of a stretch to imagine yet another record-setting year for Chapel Hill. But, then again, this hasn’t been the easiest year for many highly selective schools, like those in the Ivy League and in the University of California system, which have been marred by protests and cultures of turning a blind eye to antisemitism. It’s quite possible that UNC could have swept up many academically ambitious applicants who were scared away by all this bad press. But only time will tell!
In any event, admissions details for the Class of 2029 will be published in the next edition of UNC’s Common Data Set. This comprehensive resource provides detailed information about the university’s admissions, enrollment, and financial aid. Stay tuned!
The Demographics of UNC at Chapel Hill’s Class of 2029
Again, we don’t yet know any information on the Class of 2029, including all of the juicy details that colleges typically share in press releases to brag about their incoming class. How these numbers will stack up against the newest admits is a question we all will hopefully be able to answer shortly!
