Who was admitted to Barnard College’s Class of 2029? Are you eager for the demographic information? We share your anticipation! However, Barnard has not yet published the data for the Class of 2029. The number of hopeful Barnardians admitted and the demographic data remain a mystery. Following the lead of Columbia University, Barnard has chosen to keep this new cohort of students under wraps. Let’s delve into what we do know:

Barnard Class of 2029 in Historical Perspective

The data for the Class of 2029 might still be forthcoming (and keep your eyes peeled for it to turn up in Barnard’s next edition of The Common Data Set!), but the trend lines are clear: acceptance rates are diminishing at Barnard year-by-year, just as total applications are increasing. But before we can make any further conjectures, we at Ivy Coach call out Barnard for misrepresentations.

The Barnard College Acceptance Rate Data Don’t Add Up!

In a 2023 article by The Columbia Spectator, Barnard claims that a mere 6.5% of applicants were admitted to the Class of 2027. This record-setting tally flies in the face of that same year’s Common Data Set, which indicates that 950, or 7.96% of applicants, were admitted. What accounts for this discrepancy in the data? Columbia University has famously gotten itself in some hot water for misreporting data for the sake of bolstering its prestige, but is it possible Barnard is treading down a similar path? Or does this misreporting of the acceptance rate of about 1.5% amount to a statistical error?

In any event, whether the Class of 2028’s 7.0% acceptance rate is a new record for this member of the Seven Sisters or a slight uptick remains (as only Common Data Set verification of the numbers will convince us at this point!). And the same will be true once the data for the Class of 2029 comes out.

Columbia’s Prestige is Crumbling. Are Students Finally Catching On?

After years of negative coverage of the culture of turning an apathetic shoulder to rampant antisemitism on Columbia’s campus, we at Ivy Coach can only speculate that the Class of 2029’s acceptance rate may reflect the global response to this crisis of prestige at the shared Columbia – Barnard campus, which could be a significant blow to Barnard’s reputation. Consider this an official prediction by our famously accurate crystal ball. Students are increasingly reluctant to attend a college where their civil rights may not be protected!

But that doesn’t change the fate of those students waitlisted for the Class of 2029. These students are probably wondering if they still stand a chance of admission. That’s where Ivy Coach comes in.
