Your Chances of Admission to Williams After Being Waitlisted

The Williams waitlist has run the gamut of selectivity. For the Class of 2026, for example, no students were admitted off of the waitlist. During other years, like for the Class of 2022, dozens received good news and secured admission to this world-renowned institution that regularly tops the US News & World Report ranking of “Best Liberal Arts Colleges.” So what gives? Why is there so much fluctuation in the waitlist acceptance rate?

What ultimately determines how far Williams dips into their waitlist is the yield rate of the admitted students, or the proportion of them who choose to enroll. Since Williams admissions officers cannot, in fact, predict the future, they usually either overestimate or underestimate total enrollment during a given year. The fewer students who enroll than anticipated, the greater the waitlist acceptance rate.

While nothing, not even Ivy Coach’s famously accurate crystal ball, can predict what this state of affairs will turn out like for the Class of 2029, you can still do plenty to equip yourself with the best possible strategy for optimizing your odds of getting off the Williams waitlist. Let’s review.

Your Chances of Admission to Williams After Being Waitlisted with Ivy Coach’s Help

If Williams has waitlisted you to its Class of 2029, we at Ivy Coach can help optimize your case for admission — to give you the best shot of earning entry out of limbo. It’s a two-step process that goes as follows:

  1. Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. This involves thoroughly reviewing each piece of your Common Application and Williams supplement to understand how you positioned yourself. We must ensure your application is consistent and presents you in the best possible light. For example, if you were a student interested in art history when you applied, we can’t suddenly position you as a biology student. We need to help present you as the most exciting art historian you can be.
  2. Submit a compelling Letter of Continued Interest to Williams — one filled with no brags and no updates but instead laden with specifics about how you’re going to contribute your hook to the institution’s ecosystem. Send that letter and fill it with specifics applicable to Williams to demonstrate your interest in attending!
