Your Chances of Admission to Pomona College After Being Waitlisted

Over the last fourteen years, the average Pomona waitlist acceptance rate has been 5.39% — quite daunting when examined out of context. But the fact of the matter is that this number varies widely from year to year. In some cases, no students receive admission via the waitlist (we’re looking at you, Class of 2018!), and in others, nearly 20% do!

It all revolves around a single figure: Pomona’s yield (or the percentage of admitted students who choose to enroll). The higher Pomona’s yield, the lower the likelihood they reach deep into their waitlist.

As we tell our students at Ivy Coach, there are some things you can control, and there are some things you have to resign to chance. How far Pomona will reach down its waitlist for the Class of 2029 is not in a student’s control. However, how they approach the waitlist is entirely under their control.

Your Chances of Admission to Pomona After Ivy Coach’s Help

Ivy Coach’s students who came to us after getting waitlisted to Pomona stand a far better chance of gaining admission than those who don’t receive our help. We’re incredibly proud of our success rate, but we’re not in the business of gatekeeping our overall strategy from those who need it most (just the secret sauce!).

It all boils down to Ivy Coach’s tried-and-true method of optimizing a student’s chances for admission after being placed in limbo. That two-step process is as follows:

  1. Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. We must see what a student did right and what they did wrong. The competitive application story we help craft can’t be out of left field. Rather, it needs to be consistent with the narrative conveyed in The Common Application — just told much more compellingly.
  2. Submit a compelling Letter of Continued Interest. Most students know they should submit a letter after being placed in limbo to earn admission. And most know they should do so promptly. But most students send the wrong kind of letter. Ivy Coach’s letters to Pomona contain no brags or updates. It’s a big reason why they’re so successful. We inspire Pomona admissions officers to go to bat for our students!
