Johns Hopkins University Waitlist Acceptance Rates and Statistics

Were you recently waitlisted at Johns Hopkins? If so, you’ve come to the right place. We will break down Johns Hopkins’ waitlist acceptance rate from the past three years and then look at how you can navigate these choppy waters.

The data in the table below comes from Johns Hopkins’ self-reporting to The Common Data Set — a federally mandated compilation of data that, in the case of Hopkins, only stretches back for a few years. Rest assured, Ivy Coach still has much to say about how JHU takes advantage (or doesn’t) of their waitlisted applicants!

Your Chances of Admission to Johns Hopkins University After Being Waitlisted

For the past three years, Johns Hopkins’ waitlist acceptance rate has averaged 1.39%.

OK, so, it’s not 100%, but it’s also not 0% In other words: There is still hope, but you need to be incredibly strategic when proceeding after being waitlisted at Hopkins.

The biggest determinant of how far an admissions committee will reach down its waitlist is the school’s yield — admissions jargon for the percentage of accepted students who ultimately choose to enroll. The higher the yield, the fewer students will be selected off the waitlist. As the Class of 2029 data trickles in, we’ll await this next crop of waitlist data with bated breath. Who knows? Maybe it will show that JHU had to dig deep into their waitlist this time around!

Unfortunately, you don’t get any say over the yield this year. However, you do get a lot of control over how you approach Johns Hopkins University and optimize your chances of admission off the waitlist.

Your Chances of Admission to Johns Hopkins After Being Waitlisted with Ivy Coach’s Help

Over the last 30 years, 40% of students who work with Ivy Coach after being waitlisted by an elite university receive admission. Compare that to only 10% of regular students.

How do we do it? Well, we’re experts. Our team of former elite college admissions officers has developed a tried and true method of helping students get off a university’s waitlist and onto its campus. Here at Ivy Coach, we like to call that method the two-step:

  1. Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. We need to see what students did successfully and what they did wrong in their Johns Hopkins application. The narrative we help craft can’t have fallen from the sky. Rather, it needs to be consistent with the story conveyed in the Johns Hopkins application — just told with much more power this time around.
  2. Submit a compelling Letter of Continued Interest. Most students know they must submit a letter after being waitlisted to ultimately receive admission. And most know they should do so quickly. But most students send the wrong kind of letter. Ivy Coach’s letters to Johns Hopkins contain no brags or updates. It’s a big reason why they’re so successful. We inspire admissions officers at Johns Hopkins to go to bat for our students!
