Purdue Waitlist Acceptance Rate

Over the last decade, Purdue’s waitlist acceptance rate has dipped as low as 0.34% and climbed as high as 45.61%(photo credit: Julian Herzog).

Were you recently waitlisted to Purdue University? If so, all hope is not lost. Although being waitlisted can be frustrating and anxiety-producing, it doesn’t have to be cataclysmic. And, remember, it’s a heck of a lot better than being given a flat-out rejection. If you navigate Purdue’s waitlist correctly, you can turn that waitlist letter into an acceptance letter.

How Hard Is It to Get Off Purdue’s Waitlist?

The figures in the table above are pulled directly from Purdue’s self-reporting to The Common Data Set

There’s a pretty big spread to these numbers, with Purdue’s waitlist acceptance rate dipping as low as 0.34% and climbing as high as 45.61%. You’re probably wondering: How can that be? How many names an admissions committee will pluck off the waitlist has to do with that school’s yield, meaning the percentage of accepted students who ultimately choose to enroll. The higher the yield, the fewer names move from the waitlist to the admitted pool. It’s worth noting, though, that there has never been an admissions cycle in the past eight years in which Purdue hasn’t admitted students from the waitlist.

Unfortunately, you get no say in how high or low Purdue’s yield is. In the college admissions process, there are levers you can pull, and those you can’t. The good news: there are levers you can pull! And if you pull them with the right touch, you can still see the day when you count yourself among Neil Armstrong as one of Purdue’s alums.

Your Chances of Admission to Purdue After Being Waitlisted with Ivy Coach’s Help

Over the past 30 years, Ivy Coach has developed a stellar track record of getting students off elite university waitlists and onto their campuses. To be precise, around 40% of students who turn to Ivy Coach for help after being waitlisted go on to earn admission — compared with only around 10% of regular applicants.

How do we do it? Well, we have plenty of experience under our belt, and our team of former elite college admissions officers has developed a tried and true method for making yellow lights turn green. It all boils down to two steps:

  1. Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. We must see what students did right and what they did wrong in their application to Purdue. The singular hook we help craft can’t be out of left field. Rather, it needs to be consistent with the story conveyed in the Purdue application — just told in a way that will actually convince the admissions committee this time around.
  2. Submit a powerful Letter of Continued Interest. You’ve probably already been given the advice to submit a letter to Purdue to get off the waitlist and earn admission. But has anyone told you what to put in that letter? If they told you to brag about what you’ve been up to in the past few months since you applied — uh-oh, definitely don’t do that. Ivy Coach’s letters to Purdue contain no brags or updates. It’s a big reason why they’re so successful. We inspire admissions officers at Purdue to go to bat for our students!
