How Hard Is It to Get Off of the UMiami Waitlist?
Ok, so you’ve seen the numbers for yourself! Let’s get down to brass tacks. Over the last nine years (from 2016 to 2024), UMiami’s waitlist acceptance rate has averaged around 7.34%.
Obviously, there’s some variation here! Compare the numbers for the Class of 2025 with the numbers for the Class of 2026, and your head might start spinning. How can it have changed so much in one year?
Well, there was that whole global pandemic, and the many students who opted for a gap year over a remote education (those seats had to be filled!), so that’s one factor. But another key factor to look at here, one that’s going to affect waitlist acceptance rates every single year, is a school’s yield — the percentage of admitted students who choose to enroll the following year. The higher UMiami’s yield, the fewer names they’re going to pull from the waitlist, and the happier UMiami’s admissions officers.
Now, you could go around and visit every student admitted to UMiami and beg them to decline their offer. But that wouldn’t be such a good look, would it? In truth, and as we like to tell our students here at Ivy Coach, there are some things you can control in the long and winding road that is the elite college admissions process, and there are some things that are out of your hands. How far UMiami will reach down its waitlist falls into that second bucket. But how you manage the limbo of the waitlist, how you optimize your chances of still gaining admission — well, that is entirely in your control. And we can help.
Your Chances of Admission to UMiami After Being Waitlisted with Ivy Coach’s Help
Over the last 30 years, around 40% of students who have come to Ivy Coach after being placed on an elite university’s waitlist have earned admission — compared to a 10% acceptance rate for the average waitlisted applicant.
What’s our secret sauce? It all boils down to Ivy Coach’s tried and true method of optimizing a student’s chance for admission after being given the yellow light by UMiami. It’s a two-step process:
- Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. We must see what a student did right and what they did wrong. The narrative we help craft can’t be out of left field. Rather, it needs to be consistent with the story conveyed in the UMiami application — just told much more compellingly.
- Submit a Letter of Continued Interest that wows. Most students know they should submit a letter after being placed in limbo to earn admission. And most know they should do so promptly. But most students send the wrong kind of letter. Ivy Coach’s letters to UMiami contain no brags or updates. It’s a big reason why they’re so successful. We inspire admissions officers at UMiami to go to bat for our students!
